Start with the shape you want: slices reveal patterns across a flat surface, while standing pieces and open geodes offer more depth. Compare dimensions, thickness, exposed crystal areas and details of working. Assess colour and any treatment from the individual listing; a vivid colour alone does not establish that a piece is untreated.

Also consider how you will display it. Does a slice need a stand, and is one included? Check photographs and the stated contents. The subcollections make it easier to compare the forms that interest you.
